March 18, 2016
City Soundscape is the application developed through the EU financed project “Smart Planning for Urban Mobility”, which received funding under the EU FP7 frontierCities programme, as part of the FIWARE Acceleration Programme aiming at promoting the uptake of FIWARE technologies among Start-ups and SMEs.
City Soundscape platform exploits mobile crowd-sensed data from citizens, in order to suggest noise abatement policies and urban mobility changes to cities’ authorities. Thanks to the City Soundscape app, users can visualize and examine noise levels in real time within their city and enriching them with comments and photos. The platform can be adopted as well for creating large-scale experiential activities about sound and acoustics.
Alba Project srl, developer of the City Soundscape system, recently signed a three-year Convention with the Transport Association ASSTRA – Puglia for transport pollution monitoring and sustainable transport promotion. ASSTRA is the national association of local transport companies, both owned by local authorities and private companies. ASSTRA represents the needs and interests of the public transport operators in the relevant institutional fora, national and international. Its members include urban and suburban transport companies and local railways (not belonging to Trenitalia S.p.A.).
City Soundscape current pilot city is Brindisi, in partnership with local schools and the Brindisi municipality, and they will soon start a second pilot in the city of Campi Salentina. Alba Project srl signed as well a letter of interest with the Regional Authority of Puglia to share the results of City Soundscape pilots.
